Amid the many traditional Japanese festivals in Tokyo each spring, an unexpected event has become a new annual tradition: the Tokyo St. Patrick’s Day Parade. St Patrick’s Day Parade The Irish Network Japan (INJ), founded in 1987, has played a key role in bringing Irish traditions to Japan. They organized Tokyo’s first St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 1992, starting with just 60 participants. Today, Tokyo boasts one of Asia’s largest St. Patrick’s Day parades, attracting thousands of spectators and participants each year. In Tokyo, the 30th St. Patrick’s Day Parade will wind its way down Omotesando Avenue with its usual bright and engaging groups in front of thousands of spectators, on Sunday 16th March from 1pm. This popular parade is the oldest and largest St. Patrick’s Day parade in Asia and just one of many celebrations taking place this year across Tokyo events for Monday, March 11 to Sunday, March 17, 2024. Music festivals take to the stage this week as the weather warms up into spring, and the weekend fills with green in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day on March 17.
